Although a growing number of states mandate math screeners to flag student risk, screening tools serve as risk indicators rather than comprehensive instructional plans. Implementation frequently falters because many states have established screening laws without providing adequate diagnostic follow-up and instructional coherence. Education leaders must evaluate screeners by their practical results and invest in the foundational conditions that enable educators to act effectively on screening data.
